Several members of staff have been kind enough to share their Greenways journeys with us. The profiles below offer an insight into life at Greenways as a Senior Leader, Senior Teacher and Class Teacher.
Denise Knight, Vice Principal
Greenways’ pupils are at the heart of everything we do. They enjoy a rich curriculum and learning goes far beyond the classroom through trips, residentials, workshops and home learning opportunities. Greenways provides the opportunity for teachers to develop as part of a vibrant and innovative learning community. Our coaching model for staff and leaders’ professional development is challenging, but provides a great platform to excel. The team of senior and middle leaders ensure that through ongoing dialogue everyone has a voice and is a valued member of the team.
Katie Forsdick, Senior Teacher
I joined Greenways 5 years ago because of the school’s excellent reputation, however, it was only when I started that I realised just how amazing the staff and pupils are. I felt immediately part of the close community environment. Since then I have been fortunate enough to develop the coaching aspect of my role, which has been a great experience for me. By utilising the coaching, mentoring and partnership teaching scheme we have at Greenways I feel I have developed as a teacher and it has had a real impact on the pupils.
Shelley Hallmark, Class Teacher
After completing my last PGCE training placement at Greenways, I knew I wanted to begin my professional career here because I had felt supported since the day I started. I like that the school’s mind-set is focused on growth, reinforcing that anything is achievable both to children and teachers. Greenways’ values are at the core of everything we do; they are embedded into our pupils through their daily routines and I strongly believe that our school values shine through in everything we do.
Teagan Wood, Australian Exchange
Before I moved to the UK from Australia I made sure I completed some thorough research about which school shared my values and offered the best learning opportunities; luckily I found Greenways. I was eager to work with children requiring SEN support and Greenways facilitated this. I now work within a coaching programme as a means of support and I have been given plenty of opportunities to develop. As part of the Learning in Harmony Trust, I was recently offered the chance to observe at JFK. The Trust is really fantastic, with a great range of schools, who they do not seek to manage, but instead encourage collaboration to provide the best learning environment and opportunities for our pupils.
Theresa Clarke, Class Teacher
We are so fortunate at Greenways to have such a unique site for a school – we have a wooded space and are close to the beach. Being part of such a large school means you have a pool of expertise to draw from, and there is always someone on hand to ensure you are supported. There is a real sense of team spirit at Greenways, which gives us an excellent work-life balance. Greenways might be a large school, but it has a strong community ethos that succeeds at bringing everyone together.
Ciara Archer, Senior Teacher
Greenways is a school full of possibilities. It invests in its staff by offering the bespoke training needed for the individual and providing the resources to achieve personal growth. There are so many opportunities through mentoring, coaching, networking and fantastic projects, all of which aim to instil confidence, belief, drive and ambition across the team. Since joining the Trust, the opportunity for progression has only increased and those who are eager to develop have been able to flourish. Staff well-being as a whole has a genuine prominence; as well as investing in your career, staff are provided with health checks, rewards and professional guidance.
